For many teenagers with autism, everyday situations like making a friend, ordering food at a restaurant, taking public transportation, or starting a conversation can be overwhelming. Through the AGATHA Project, the flagship program of Fundación Alumbra in Bogotá, participants take part in PEERS®, an evidence-based social skills program developed at UCLA that helps adolescents build confidence, independence, and meaningful relationships.
Throughout the program, they learn how to make and keep friends, communicate more effectively, navigate everyday social situations, and participate more confidently in their communities Unfortunately, many families in Colombia cannot afford to enroll their children in this life-changing program.
When you become a sponsor, you’re doing more than funding a course. You’re giving a teenager the opportunity to make a first friend, gain independence, and develop skills that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
